Growth and development in Rouse Hill NSW

Rouse Hill takes its name from Richard Rouse, who began Rouse Hill House in 1813. The district was rural until the 1990s, when the Rouse Hill Village Centre opened in 1999 and estates spread across the farmland. Rouse Hill Town Centre followed in 2008 and the metro station opened in 2019. Today the suburb is home to around 11,300 people, with a younger than average median age of 34, and a final residential precinct around the town centre is still being built out.

Early history

The area is tied to the 1804 convict uprising, which was put down near Rouse Hill the day after the breakout from Castle Hill. Richard Rouse built Rouse Hill House between about 1813 and 1818, and it still stands within the suburb.

The first estates

Residential subdivision arrived in the 1990s. The Rouse Hill Village Centre opened in 1999 and most of today's detached homes date from the years that followed.

The town centre

Construction of Rouse Hill Town Centre began in 2006, with the first stage open in 2007 and the centre launched in March 2008. It anchors the suburb's apartment and townhouse growth.

The metro

Rouse Hill station opened on the Sydney Metro Northwest in May 2019, with Tallawong one stop further west. Higher density housing has followed the line.

What is still coming

A joint venture between Lendlease and the GPT Group is delivering around 400 apartments on Commercial Road near the town centre, part of the precinct's final stage. Further infill continues on older lots across the suburb.
